New Delhi [India], July 2 (ANI): Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Tuesday expressed grief over the Hathras stampede incident in Uttar Pradesh that has claimed the lives of 116 people and offered condolences to the bereaved families.
Taking to the microblogging site, HD Kumaraswamy said on X, “The news of the tragic clash near Hathras in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of more than 87 people, has deeply saddened me. May eternal peace be granted to the souls of the deceased, and may God give strength to their families to bear this grief. I hope the injured recover swiftly.”
According to Chaitra V, Commissioner of Aligarh, the latest death toll has risen to 116 and the number of injured is 18 in the tragic incident.
“116 people have been confirmed dead. 18 people are injured. Treatment is being ensured for the injured in Aligarh district. Primary investigation is being carried out,” she said.
Aligarh IG Shalabh Mathur said, “Dead bodies have been sent to various places for post-mortem. We are trying to give the best possible treatment to the injured. FIR is also being registered. The organizers of the event will be included in the FIR because more than the permitted number of people had come to attend the event. Since it is a matter of investigation, a high-level inquiry has been ordered into it.”
Uttar Pradesh government announced 2 lakh compensation to the kin of those who died in the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the loss of lives in the stampede in Hathras and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
PM Modi spoke with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath following the tragedy.
“The Uttar Pradesh government is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has ordered a thorough investigation.
He also instructed the officials to form a team under the leadership of ADG, Agra and Commissioner, Aligarh to investigate the causes of the accident. CM Adityanath is personally monitoring the situation and has dispatched two ministers, the Chief Secretary, and the DGP to the site.
Hathras District Magistrate Ashish Kumar said the incident occurred at a private event.
“Permission for the event to be held was given by the SDM and it was a private event. A high-level committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The primary focus of the administration is to provide all possible help to the injured and kin of the deceased,” Kumar said. (ANI)
