New Delhi [India], July 21 (ANI): Congress MP K. Suresh on Sunday criticised the central government, saying it prioritises conducting government business while there are numerous national and international issues to discuss. He stated that the government must provide an opportunity for opposition parties to participate in the House, alleging that despite repeated promises of cooperation from the opposition, the government has continued to focus solely on its legislative agenda.
While speaking to ANI, Suresh said, “At the same time, the government has to give an opportunity to opposition parties inside the House, as there are a number of issues. The government is always interested in conducting government business, but there are also numerous people’s issues and national, as well as international, concerns.”
“In every session, we are assuring cooperation with the government. Every session, we are ensuring all party meetings,” he added.
He alleged that ministers were unwilling to respond to opposition questions, saying, “When we are asking for time from the government to discuss those issues, the government is not ready to talk, the ministers are also not ready to reply, so that’s why the opposition parties are agitating.”
Suresh reiterated that opposition parties had once again committed to cooperating with the government in the current session but insisted that dialogue was essential to uphold democratic values.
“In this meeting, we promised that we will cooperate, but at the same time, there are a number of issues like the Pahalgam terrorists attack, Operation Sindoor, our foreign policy, SIR voters’ list, statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, language issue and other issues,” the Congress MP asserted.
The remarks came ahead of the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on Monday and will run till August 21. The government is expected to table a packed legislative agenda, with multiple bills listed for discussion and passage.
Some of the key bills include — Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill of 2025, Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill 2025, the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) bill 2025, the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) bill 2025, the Mines and Mines (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill 2025, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025.Also on the agenda are the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024, the Indian Ports Bill, 2025, and the Income Tax Bill, 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will brief the media before the start of the Monsoon Session on Monday, according to an official statement. (ANI)
