According to an official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), “Uttarakhand Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar on Monday has given instructions to effectively patrol (foot patrolling) to establish an environment of security among the common citizens under effective prevention of crimes and strong policing in the state, so that a sense of confidence towards security can be generated among the general public.”
The DGP also issued necessary guidelines to all the district in-charges regarding law and order and said that usually the activity of criminal elements increases at night and incidents of theft, robbery, dacoity, and misbehaviour with women occur, which have an adverse effect on the general public.
“To effectively curb and prevent such incidents, effective control should be done by increasing the activity of police at night,” said the DGP.
The Director General of Police said that in each district, hotspots of criminal incidents should be identified and mapped station-wise, and effective patrolling, foot patrolling, and checking should be ensured, and sensitive places of the police station area should be identified, and patrolling arrangements should be ensured.
He directed that foot patrolling should be done every day around major crossings, markets, shopping malls, bus stands, railway stations, parks, etc. of all police stations and the outpost areas.
The DGP said that a sufficient number of patrolling vehicles should be deployed for patrolling on sensitive routes, apart from this, police pickets should be installed at other sensitive places, and CCTV cameras should also be arranged at important places.
While giving instructions, the DGP said that all the district in-charges will ensure that one Circle Officer is put on a roster basis every day for night patrolling and checking in the city and rural areas of the district and that the additional superintendent of police will supervise this patrol checking by being mobile.
As per the instructions of the DGP, all the district in-charges will ensure random checking of night patrolling parties by being mobile themselves till 1 o’clock in the night.
The DGP said that the police personnel found absent, lax and careless in night patrolling should be warned, and if this is repeated, disciplinary action should be taken against them as per rules.
The DGP directed that gazetted police officers and station heads should do foot patrolling for at least one hour in crowded areas or towns in their respective areas every evening. He said that during foot patrolling/patrol checking, habitual, active criminals, history sheeters, and other notorious criminals of that area should also be checked suddenly and with maximum police force.
The Director General of Police said that while doing effective foot patrolling around schools and colleges, various educational institutions, and industrial areas at the time of opening and closing, suspicious persons (miscreants, people standing near paan shops, people sitting in suspicious vehicles, etc.) must be checked.
He said that during foot patrolling, all officers, police personnel must contact the public as much as possible and create a sense of security in them, and motivate them to give important information and cooperation to the police. (ANI)
