Patna (Bihar) [India], September 10 (ANI): Ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Wednesday hit out at the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan for promoting schemes that would provide financial assistance to women, accusing them of “propagating lies”.
“This has been the history of RJD, Tejashwi Yadav, Congress and Ghamandia alliance to spread confusion and lies. They have not formed a government. The Mahagathbandhan government, which remained in power here for 15 years, the government of the parents of Tejashwi Yadav did nothing,” Union MoS Rai told reporters here.
Labelling the exercise of opposition parties asking women in Bihar to fill forms for their schemes as “deceit”, Rai said that people will not be influenced since they believe in the development carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and trust Nitish Kumar.
“They are not going to form a government. But their people are making people fill forms; this is deceit. People believe in the development of PM Modi. They trust the NDA and Nitish Kumar. They are not going to be influenced,” the Union MoS said.
Earlier on Sunday, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sanjay Yadav hit out at the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar, and questioned the contribution of Nitish Kumar and BJP for “mothers and sisters.”
“What did Nitish Kumar and the BJP do for mothers and sisters in their government? They gave a loan to Jeevika Didis, and they recovered interest from them. Ten months ago, Tejashwi announced a scheme that, when our government comes to power, we will provide 2,500 rupees every month. Our party workers are getting forms filled from them because Tejashwi does what he says,” the RJD MP told reporters.
Yadav claimed that the scores of women of Bihar are “joining” the Mahagathbandhan.”Our leader, Tejashwi Yadav, will keep making efforts for the development and economic progress of the people. Every day lakhs of Biharis and lakhs of our mothers and sisters are definitely joining the Mahagathbandhan,” he added.
Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.
While the NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, aims to continue its tenure in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, comprising the RJD, Congress, and left parties, seeks to oust Nitish Kumar. In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates.
The Opposition’s INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)
