“Heinous stain, sets bad precedent”: Chinta Mohan condemns attack on CJI Gavai – World News Network

Nellore (Andhra Pradesh) [India], October 9 (ANI): Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Chitna Mohan on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent attack on Chief Justice of India (CJI) Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, calling it an unprecedented and deeply distressing incident in the history of the country.
Demanding strict action against those responsible for the attack, Mohan argued that the attack on CJI Gavai sets a “bad precedent” and was reflective of the condition of the Scheduled Castes in the country.
“It is a heinous stain. The man who threw the shoe at him is not apologetic at all. He has taken it as a pride. It sets a bad precedent, and it is not supposed to happen to anybody. However, it happened to a judge who belongs to the Scheduled Caste. This is the situation of the Scheduled Castes in the country. The other day, a statue of Ambedkar was burned. Everyday incidents are happening, which is not a good precedent,” Mohan, who is a senior Congress leader in Andhra Pradesh, told reporters.
Furthermore, the former Lok Sabha MP criticised the Telugu Desam Party-led (TDP) coalition government in Andhra Pradesh, calling its claims of helping farmers a “pretence.” He stated that the BJP and TDP governments were working for the rich, not the poor.
“Of tonnes of crops farmers produce, only one per cent is purchased by the government. However, they claim to help farmers, which is a pretence. Farmers in Nellore and across the state are in deep distress, facing significant debt. Instead of waiving loans for farmers, the Modi government is waiving loans for the rich in the country. BJP-TDP government is working for the rich and not for the poor,” Mohan said while addressing a press conference here.
“While the BJP government is supporting big industrialists who defaulted on bank loans, there has been no significant relief or benefit for farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to implement even a single promise made during the past 11 years,” he added.
The attack on CJI Gavai has been strongly criticised by most leaders in the political circle.
The incident unfolded as a 71-year-old lawyer, Rakesh Kishore, entered Court Room 1 of the Supreme Court of India on Monday and attempted to throw an object at CJI BR Gavai. He was immediately arrested by the security personnel and escorted out of the premises.
Sources reveal that while being removed, the lawyer said, “Sanatan ka apman nahi sahega Hindustan.”
After the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) on Monday ordered the immediate suspension of Kishore’s practice after prima facie material indicated that he allegedly removed his sports shoes and attempted to hurl them towards the Chief Justice of India during proceedings in Court No. 1 of the Supreme Court at about 11:35 AM.
