Patna (Bihar) [India], September 1 (ANI): Bihar Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary on Monday hit out at the opposition, stating that the entire country knows who the “murderers” of democracy are.
He stated that democracy has been established in the country for the past 11 years, and the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is undertaking welfare work.
“The entire nation knows who the murderers of democracy are. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the government has been running for 11 years, democracy has been established across the country, it is a government of the people, and work is being done for the welfare of the people,” Choudhary told ANI.
The Bihar Deputy CM further criticised the opposition over the recent controversial remarks on PM Narendra Modi, and asked whether they would apologise for the ‘abuse and insult’ campaign started by them. He stated that the opposition bears the “consequences” if they don’t apologise over the issue.
“Nitish Kumar and PM Modi are continuously delivering justice to the people… I want to ask the people of the Mahagathbandhan: Will you apologise for starting this ‘abuse and insult’ campaign? If not, you will have to face the consequences,” he said.
Last week, an alleged video on the internet showing the accused directing abusive slurs at PM Modi during an INDIA bloc event went viral on social media.
On Friday, the man accused of hurling abuses at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a political rally in Bihar was arrested.
Samrat Choudhary also demanded that the Congress party apologise for dismissing 100 governments across the country while referring to the JP Movement of the 1970s.
The JP Movement was a political movement led by socialist leader Jayprakash Narayan during the 1970s, centred on allegations of misrule against then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The main purpose of the movement was for the social and political reforms across the country which was followed by the resignation of Indira Gandhi.
The movement later ended up towards the declaration of an Emergency in June 1975, where all of the opposition leaders were arrested, and press censorship was imposed.
“The Congress Party and the Mahagathbandhan should tell the people of the country and also apologize for the fact that the Congress Party dismissed nearly 100 governments in this country, and during the J.P. Movement, the Congress Party imprisoned all the major leaders of the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bihar elections are expected to be held later this year in October or November; however, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has not announced an official date.
While the NDA, comprising the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, aims to continue its tenure in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, comprising the RJD, Congress, and left parties, seeks to oust Nitish Kumar.
In the current Bihar Assembly of 243 members, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) consists of 131 with the BJP having 80 MLAs, JD(U)-45, HAM(S)-4, with the support of 2 Independent Candidates.
The Opposition’s INDIA Bloc has a strength of 111 members with RJD leading with 77 MLAs, Congress-19, CPI(ML)-11, CPI(M)-2 and CPI-2. (ANI)
